How to use this education hub directory
Course platforms differ in three ways that matter more than their marketing: who teaches, what the certificate is worth, and what actually costs money. University platforms such as Coursera and edX let you audit real university courses for free and charge only for the verified certificate. Government platforms such as SWAYAM and NPTEL are free to learn from and charge a small proctored-exam fee for the certificate. Marketplaces such as Udemy sell individual courses outright. Subscriptions such as LinkedIn Learning and Skillshare charge monthly for an entire library. Vendor academies such as Google, Microsoft, AWS and Salesforce give away training that leads to certifications employers actually recognise.
Pricing models change often, and free tiers shrink without notice. Listings below note whether a platform is free, freemium or paid where that is stable, but confirm current pricing on the provider's own site before paying. Every URL here responded when checked on 11 October 2026.
- Audit first. On Coursera and edX the course content is free; only the certificate costs money, so finish before paying.
- Check who issues the certificate and whether employers or your university recognise it.
- For India, SWAYAM credits can count toward your degree under UGC rules, so check with your college before enrolling.
- Government portals and non-profits such as Khan Academy and freeCodeCamp are free by mandate and rarely add fees.
- Watch for auto-renewing subscriptions and loan-backed income-share agreements; read the cancellation terms first.
Third-party notice: Listings link to external providers. NealFlix is not affiliated with or the operator of those sites; check each provider's terms, privacy policy, content rights and local rules before use.
Frequently asked questions
Which course platforms are genuinely free?
Government platforms such as SWAYAM, NPTEL, DIKSHA and Skill India Digital are free to learn from, with only a small fee if you want a proctored certificate. Non-profits including Khan Academy, freeCodeCamp, MIT OpenCourseWare and OpenStax are free by design. Google, Microsoft, AWS, Salesforce and Cisco academies give away substantial free training. Coursera and edX let you audit courses free and charge only for the certificate.
Are free certificates worth anything?
It depends on who issues them. Vendor certifications from Google, AWS, Microsoft and Salesforce are recognised by employers because they test real product skills. Platform completion certificates from Udemy or Skillshare mostly signal interest rather than verified ability. University certificates from Coursera, edX or SWAYAM carry academic weight, and SWAYAM credits can transfer to an Indian degree.
Should I learn in Hindi or English?
Both routes are well served. Physics Wallah, Adda247, LearnVern, GKToday Hindi, Safalta and Vidyakul teach in Hindi and regional languages, and Khan Academy publishes a full Hindi library. Most global technical content and nearly all vendor certification material is English-first, so many learners study concepts in their own language and practise documentation in English.
How do I choose between a subscription and a one-off course?
Buy a single course when you have one specific gap to close. Subscribe when you will use the library weekly for several months, since platforms such as Coursera Plus and LinkedIn Learning are cheaper per course at that usage. Cancel before renewal if your usage drops; most subscriptions renew automatically.
Are Indian edtech platforms still operating?
The sector has consolidated. BYJU'S parent Think and Learn entered insolvency proceedings in July 2024, and Unacademy was acquired by upGrad in March 2026. Both platforms continue to operate, but verify continuity and refund terms before buying a long multi-year programme.
